4. Installing CALI Author

CALI Author is available on the CALI's CD-ROM (http://www.cali.org/CDROM) and from the CALI Author web site (http://www.cali.org/caliauthor). The web site will always have the latest version. If you have previously installed CALI Author from the CD or the web site, you can download the CALI Author update, a smaller download that updates CALI Author's core functions without re-installing the required windows files. Before starting the installation procedure you should save all data you are working on and close all running programs. To install CALI Author double-click on the Program file. If you are installing from CD-ROM this file will be called "setup.exe" in the "setupca" folder on the CD-ROM. If you are installing a version you have downloaded from the CALI Author web site, the file will be named either CALIAuthorComplete.exe or CALIAuthorUpdate.exe, depending upon which version you selected for download. Both a CALI Author demo lesson and a Computer-Assisted-Instruction ("CAI") primer are included in the full CALI Author file (but not included in the CALI Author Update download). Once the setup has been launched by double-clicking (see above), you will be asked to specify an installation directory (C:\CCALI by default). We recommend the C:\CCALI directory if you already have the CALI library installed here. This will allow you to access other lessons directly from CALI Author. Select the directory and then click on "next." The installation file will then ask what start menu folder CALI Author should be installed in (CALI by default). Make your selection then click "Next." You are then shown a screen that informs you the "CALI Author will be installed." Click on "Next" to complete the installation. Once installation is complete you may be notified that your computer must be restarted to complete the installation. Make sure all your programs are closed and documents are saved. Restart your computer. You can delete the downloaded files after installation by following this cleanup procedure. Congratulations! You now have successfully installed CALI Author!
