Chevron Deference

This lesson explores issues relating to the United States Supreme Court's landmark decision in Chevron, U.S.A., Inc. v. Natural Resources Defense Council, Inc., 467 U.S. 837 (1984). In that case, the Court held that courts should generally "defer" to an administrative agency's interpretation of the statutes the agency administers. The lesson examines Chevron's foundation, application, and limits. The lesson is intended for students who have studied these issues in class and who wish to refine and expand their knowledge.
