DONATE TO CALI

Every dollar you donate to CALI will be matched 5X!

In September of 2025, CALI received a grant from the Once Upon a Time Foundation (Press Release) that will match all donations to CALI up to $50,000 per year for the next four years. If we raise $50,000, we will receive another $250,000 from the foundation to support our mission of publishing free and open casebooks, creating rigorous, interactive law tutorials (CALI Lessons), and improving our community outreach.

HELP US take advantage of this rare and transformative opportunity.

Three Reasons ... 1) Free Casebooks, 2) Rigorous, Interactive Exercises, and 3) Access to Justice.

1. We pay law faculty to write casebooks and give them away for free to law students, law schools or anyone who wants to learn the law.  More than "free", our Creative Commons licensing and Microsoft Word versions of our books allow faculty and students to remix and repurpose our books to suit their learning goals.  This is the future of academic casebooks.

2. We publish over 1,400 rigorous, interactive tutorials in 40 legal subject areas.  CALI Lessons teach the law in an engaging and challenging way.  Our lessons are written by tenured law faculty with years of experience teaching the topic and reviewed by other law faculty for quality.

What students say about CALI Lessons …

“...CALI provides the one thing that almost all law students strive for and rarely ever obtain- instant feedback. The lessons are very helpful and informative, and it is a very gratifying feeling when CALI tells you that you answered a question correctly. I use CALI whenever there is a lesson that is relevant to one of my courses, and always recommend CALI to my friends.”

“...[CALI Lessons] focus on specific topics and helps you figure out where your weak points are.”

“...Great practice on critical thinking. Time is much better spent on these exercises than refining some outline.”

“...If a subject just isn't making sense, [CALI Lessons] are helpful to get feedback on why an answer is wrong so you can work through your problem areas before you get to the exams!”

3. We developed A2J Author that lets legal aid attorneys and court staff automate court forms for SRLs (self-representing litigants).  A2J Author has been used over 8 million times to guide people who cannot afford a lawyer and is the most widely used document automation system in the non-profit space.  A2J Author is also used in law schools as an experiential training platform because the future practice of law is lawyer skills + automation.  A2J-Author is free and open source.
